Why We Stock Sea Frogs Housings

Action cam housings are one of those things that get overlooked until they flood. We looked at what's actually on the market for tech and cave divers - aluminum, sensible depth ratings, controls you can actually use with cold hands - and Sea Frogs kept coming up. So we picked them up.

Sea Frogs is a Hong Kong based manufacturer that's been building underwater housings for over a decade. They cover a wide range of cameras, from action cams to mirrorless and DSLR systems. We carry the action cam side: GoPro Hero 9 through 13, DJI Osmo Action 3 through 6, and Insta360 Ace Pro 2.

Aluminum bodies, not plastic

The whole point of moving to a Sea Frogs housing is the build. CNC machined aluminum body, anodized, with stainless hardware. They're heavier than the plastic housings that ship in the box with most action cams, but they handle the kind of treatment a tech setup gives gear - banging into stage bottles, dragging through restrictions, getting clipped and unclipped a hundred times.

Controls you can actually use

Machined buttons positioned where your fingers expect them. They have enough travel and enough resistance that you can find them and press them with cold hands or thick gloves. That sounds basic until you've tried to push a soft plastic button through 5mm of glove material at 4 degrees C.

One thing to plan for: there's no touchscreen pass-through. You set your modes, resolution, frame rate, and stabilization on the surface, then operate the camera with the physical buttons in the water. Same workflow as any other proper housing.

Two depth ratings

We stock these in two configurations. The 60 meter housing is the lighter, smaller option - good for recreational, rec-tech, and a lot of cave work where you're never approaching the depth limit anyway. The 200 meter housing is for deep trimix, technical cave projects, and dives where you want real margin between your max depth and the housing's rating.

The honest answer on which one to buy is to pick based on where you actually dive. If you're a 40 meter cave diver, the 60m housing is easier to manage, lighter on the rig, and cheaper. If you're routinely past 80 meters or want one housing that covers everything you'll ever do, the 200m version makes sense.

Camera models we stock
